Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year

September 2015

Dear SMCES Parents,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! I am both inspired and humbled that you have chosen SMCES to join you in the education and formation of your children, and I embrace that responsibility with devotion and dedication. I believe that this coming school year will be one filled with faith, growth, development, learning, and success – for our students, our staff, and our community.

The National Catholic Education Association has identified and described Catholic schools as “Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service.” Additionally, Pope Francis says that Catholic education must “rise to the promise found in each young person… that we have to create the material and spiritual conditions for their full development; to give them a solid basis on which to build their lives; to guarantee their safety and their education to be everything they can be." These words from NCEA and our Pope challenge us to strive to embody these principles and ideals in all that we do here at SMCES.

As your principal and a longtime Catholic educator, I believe Catholic education works! There is a top-notch cadre of educators here at SMCES and I am always impressed with my staff for the level of excellence to which they call our students. At SMCES we see students as more than a score, never a statistic and we care about each child as a person. As Catholic educators, we have a supreme challenge to help students reach their fullest potential, in both knowledge and faith. I believe it is a combination of all these factors that begin to shape our students into the adults they will become, people who will be committed to being holy and vital and also called by God to contribute to this world.

Our work and ministry would be fruitless without the involvement, collaboration, and cooperation of you, our parents. You are a crucial element in the success of SMCES and the education of your children. Home and school – everyone shares the goal of helping children learn and feel successful. Educational research has proven that when parents, teachers, and administrators work together, the students benefit: they tend to earn higher grades, perform better on tests, attend school more regularly, have better behavior, and show more positive attitudes toward themselves and toward school. School programs that include opportunities for positive parental involvement, like we do at SMCES, are more effective in the education of children!

SMCES is a dynamic educational community (you’ll hear of our plans, work, and progress at Back to School Night), so until then I ask you to please keep us in your prayers. I look forward to seeing you, talking with you, and working with you to make this the best possible experience for your children. Please contact me throughout the year, at any time, if I can be of service to you.

Once again - Welcome, Bienvenidos, Yōkoso, Mabuhay, Huāning, Fáilte, Anyong Haseyo, Bienvenue – to SMCES and our new school year!

Peace and Blessings,
Dr. Neil Quinly
